James Herman Banning & Thomas Cox Allen were the first black men to fly across America during the month of September 1932. Their historic flight departed from Dyson’s Airport in Los Angeles, California, and terminated at Long Island, New York. The duo had more than a fair share of obstacles traveling across the nation.
